If you are a true wine lover that follows our updates, you certainly already know that Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World has recently tasted in blind conditions more than 700 wines from Austria. It was a quite challenging, but at the same time a very beautiful week. A lot of discoveries have been made and most important, this tasting revealed the high quality of the wines from Austria.
Weissburgunder 2017 – 87 Punkte
Youthful bright straw colour. Pure nose, pale fruit, apple, pear and citrus with some herbal notes and fresh almond. Light to medium bodied, crisp with restrained fruit and a medium to long pure finish.
Weissburgunder Alte Reben 2015 – 89 Punkte
Bright light golden colour. Generous nose, fine oak, vanilla, mild spices, citrus, pale stone fruit and fresh butter. Rounded palate with an unctuous mouth feel, rounded acidity, yet a sense of freshness with buttery and nutty fruit and a rather long finish.
PUR PUR Jahrgangscuvée – 90 Punkte
Inky dark purple colour. Ripe dark fruit like cassis, plum, sage and peppery notes on the nose. The palate is dense and youthful, vigorous dark fruit, sage and mint notes with a hint of oak and tobacco, a fresh acidity, ripe tannin and long finish. A bit youthful but well-balanced proportions.
„The senses can definitely be educated, it is not about being a genius, just hard work, memorising, tasting and staying open minded, finding a language and method to describe taste and flavour, being able to communicate it.“
Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World
